Michael Abcarian is the managing partner of the
firm’s Dallas office. Michael brings more than thirty years of sound,
dedicated, results-oriented representation of private and public employers in
the broad spectrum of labor and employment law. Not only a skillful advocate
before courts, juries and governmental agencies, he emphasizes preventive
strategies that help employers avoid expensive problems before they happen.
With keen insight into the consequences of employment-related decision-making,
he protects the critical interests of employer clients with practical
navigation through the increasingly complex world of labor and employment law.
Michael is experienced at representing management
clients of all sizes, including Fortune 500 corporations, units of local
government, and local business interests. He defends employment discrimination
cases before federal and state courts, and handles complex litigation including
class actions. He frequently appears in proceedings before the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety
& Health Administration, the Office of Contract Compliance Programs and the
National Labor Relations Board.
In addition to an active employment law practice,
Michael also represents clients in matters pertaining to union labor relations,
NLRB representation proceedings, NLRB unfair labor practice proceedings,
arbitration of labor disputes, labor contract negotiations, and the handling of
strikes and suits against labor organizations. He works closely with employers
in designing preventive labor relations strategies and management training
programs. Michael is a sought after speaker on labor and employment topics, and
for management training programs. He has written extensively on labor and
employment issues, including such topics as compensation, employment
discrimination under federal and Texas law, wrongful discharge, sexual
harassment, wage and hour compliance, and affirmative action compliance.
As lead counsel, Michael defended the employers in Ray v. Glidden Co., and Swearingen v. Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., both of which are well-known and often cited decisions of the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
