About Our Committees

 

Permanent Committees:

Legislative Committee: (most informative committee)

  • Requires occasional travel to Austin State Capitol, usually at your own expense, between January and May of each year.
  • You can sit in on open legislative sessions.
  • Influence the current issues that pertain to the food industry.
  • Network with State Legislators and Senators.

Scholarship Committee: (most rewarding committee)

  • Requires travel at your own expense, to Texas Tech University in Lubbock and/or Texas A&M in College Station. You may be asked to go to one or the other university or both and always it is based on your availability.
  • Interview student applicants for Scholarships.
  • Present the students with their scholarship at our annual meeting.

Scholarship Auction Committee: (most fun and the hardest working committee)

  • Organize the main event for the TFPA which is raising funds for scholarships at our annual meeting.
  • Organize and collect live and silent auction items.
  • Work with our Auctioneer prior to the live auction.
  • Downside: you will miss many of the speaker sessions during the annual meeting as you prepare the auction.
  • Upside: you get to yell and point at people during the live auction.

Membership Committee: (most connected committee)

  • Growing our membership by soliciting new members.
  • Keeping members current with dues, contact information, etc.
  • Serve as Hosts for the New Member Reception at annual meeting.

Ad Hock Committees:

Finance Committee: (most serious committee)

  • Oversees investment changes in the Scholarship and Operating funds.
  • Communicates with our Investment Advisor.
  • Recommends investment opportunities and changes as necessary.
  • Makes sure all investments comply with our investment policy.

Associate Committee: (most automatic committee)

  • If you are an associate member, you automatically belong to this committee.
  • You have two board positions on the Board of Directors.
  • You have a planning meeting at every TFPA annual meeting.
  • Serves as a pool for potential speakers at our annual meeting.

Website Committee: (most creative committee)

  • Keeps TFPA website current, changing and informative.
  • Posts legislative information.
  • Keeps Calendar of events up-to-date.
